Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: What is Monster Gel used for?
A: Monster Gel is a professional-grade prosthetic alginate used for lifecasting applications, such as face, hand, or body molds. It’s ideal for capturing fine detail safely and comfortably on the skin.
Q: How do I mix Monster Gel?
A: Mix the alginate powder with clean, cold water using a 1:1 volume ratio (or per instructions on the package). Stir quickly to a smooth, creamy consistency and apply immediately, as working time is limited.
Q: How long does it take to set?
A: Setting time depends on temperature, but generally ranges from 3 to 8 minutes. Using colder water can slow the set time; warmer water speeds it up.
Q: Is Monster Gel skin-safe?
A: Yes. Monster Gel is formulated to be gentle on the skin, making it suitable for use on the face and other sensitive areas. However, avoid use on broken or irritated skin.
Q: What makes Monster Gel different from other alginates?
A: Monster Gel is designed specifically for prosthetic-grade lifecasting, offering superior tear strength, detail reproduction, and flexibility compared to dental or hobby-grade alginates.
Q: Can I reuse Monster Gel molds?
A: No. Like all alginates, Monster Gel molds are single-use only and should be cast immediately with a suitable material like plaster or stone.
Q: How should I store Monster Gel powder?
A: Keep the powder sealed, dry, and stored in a cool location to avoid clumping and degradation. Avoid exposure to humidity.
Q: Is this product dust-free or low-dust?
A: While not certified “dust-free,” Monster Gel is low-dust and designed for studio safety. Always mix in a well-ventilated area and wear a dust mask as a precaution.
Q: Can I extend working time?
A: Yes. Use cooler water to increase your working time. Adding retarder is not recommended, as it may interfere with setting consistency.
